The Academy of Entrepreneurship at Buchholz High School hosted a special event titled "ICE 2012: Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship" on January 24, 2012. This was a student project for DECA State competition. We invited five area entrepreneurs to speak for 15 minutes each to the audience about their businesses, triumphs and challenges, and how they were able to be so successful. Also, the Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Mr. Kenneth Lawson, was in attendance and presented a check for $1,000 to the Academy of Entrepreneurship to provide support for their educational program. Almost 400 people were in attendance that evening, and we received much positive feedback.  More information is on the attached flyer, school press release and state press release. .The link which follows is a compilation of clips from the evening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxgt2m-BMqg&feature=youtu.be.  See also Press Release, Media Release and Flyer

Looking for the next great idea

By TRACI L. WEISENBACH

Tribune Staff Writer

UPPER THUMB — Some may say money makes the world go 'round. In reality, though, it just m ight be entrepreneurship. Just think of what we wouldn't have today if people hadn't had bright ideas for new or im proved products or services. Oftentimes, it doesn't take a college degree to produce a great idea. Plenty of entrepreneurial creativity sits within the minds of high school students. The Thumb Area Research & Innovation Center NETWORK (TARICN), a partnership between the Central Michigan University-Research Corporation and a wide range of economic development, educational and business service organizations, wants to unleash some of this ingenuity in today's high schoolers. In recognition and support of National Entrepreneurship Week, TARICN is hosting its first school-to-school "I've Got a Better Idea" Challenge. Read More...
